Graphic designers, photographers, and journalists wanted

This year the International Press Gallery (IPG) is gracing the halls of Brisbane’s Model United Nations conference, BrizMUN, for a second time.

Model United Nations conferences raise real global issues for debate.

Making its highly successful debut at BrizMUN in 2008, the IPG again seeks journalism students to report on the issues and pin down the stories behind the two-day event.

For BrizMUN, journalists publish 1 – 2 stories in the red-hot IPG newspaper. The Working Paper is run by a team of 12 journalists, with editors, graphic designers and photographers.

Journalists represent one of five international publications: Xinhua, Washington Post, Al Jazeera, Afrol News and The Financial Review. A blog will be running concurrently so journalists can submit online too, increasing experience of working in a real newsroom as a 'content producer'.

The graphic designers will be responsible for lay-out of the newspaper, with potential web design opportunities, too.

The IPG gives journalism, photography and graphic design students real-life deadline experience, with fantastic portfolio-enhancing opportunities.

It’s a unique opportunity to practice press conference question-time, political commentary, interviewing skills, and assessment of real global issues. It’s also an opportunity to network with motivated and bright university students from all disciplines.

Positions are open for:
Journalists
Photographers
Graphic designers

Some experience is preferred for all positions but everyone is encouraged to apply regardless.

Brisbane has also secured the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations conference, with opportunities for participating BrizMUN journalists, photographers and graphic designers to lead an actual international press pack later in the year.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Applications open now until April 4
Conference April 17 – 19

For more info contact Ili Tulloch – ilanatulloch@gmail.com, 0448 630 521.

Netball Queensland seeking volunteer reporters

Netball Queensland is looking for students studying Communications, Journalism or Public Relations to become a volunteer reporter during the Queensland State League Competition in 2009.

You will be assigned to one of the 8 teams competing in the 2009 Holden Cruze State League Netball Competition beginning May 16 and will be expected to go to your team’s home games and report on the match.

You will then write a media release which will be distributed to local media following the match.

Successful applicants will be given a detailed plan of what they are expected to do for every report.

This role would be a great opportunity to learn more about the practical side of the communications industry and would give you valuable experience to take with you into the work force.

There is nothing better than hands-on experience if you are studying to become a journalist or public relations consultant.

Anybody interested can email a resume before April 25 to:
Demelza McCloud
Communications Officer
Netball Queensland
